A sequel to Lawrences earlier novel The Rainbow, Women in Love is the story of two sisters, Ursula and Gudrun. The latter pursues a false relationship with Gerald Crich, an industrialist. Their feelings are juxtaposed with the true love that develops between Ursula and Rupert, a school inspector and a spokesman for the author. The book is outstanding for its brilliant use of symbolism.
